Our Philosophy

Welcome to Jardim a Mar, your palm tree garden resort at Agonda beach in Goa!
Jardim a Mar is a beachfront resort best known for its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We are based in the tropical and unspoiled south of Goa, the prime location on one of the state’s best beaches – Agonda.
Life in Agonda moves in slow motion, the pace is laid-back and relaxed, away from the buzzing party scene. Jardim a Mar is the ideal spot for anyone looking for a break in a peaceful atmosphere.
You can stay in one of our comfortable eco-huts made out of natural local materials or choose a nice room in one of our stone cottages. Our rooms & huts are well equipped and all provided with a veranda and private bathroom.

Stretch out in one of our loungy chill-out corners, eat & drink and get pampered by our friendly team.
Our restaurant is famous for a variety of healthy food and uniquely Indian and Nepali specialties, including an excellent choice of seafood, fresh salads, delicious veggie-dishes and our specials from the tandoori oven. Have a look at our menu.
Agonda’s relaxed vibe attracts a small but dedicated Yoga crowd and at Jardim a Mar you can also take a time-out for your body & soul: we arrange wellness treatments and massages, rent out surfboards and offer Yoga classes at our very own outdoor Shala located in our palm tree garden.
Jardim a Mar is a postcard paradise, with the beach right in front of us, the palm trees and everything you need to be happy. We hope you join us for a sun-downer in our wonderful sunset bar while watching the dolphins swim by.

Jardim a Mar restaurant is not only a favorite among our own guests. In Agonda our cooks are locally known for their excellent seafood and tandoori dishes. Longtime stayers and Jardim a Mar aficionados are loyal followers of our kitchen crew and keep coming back for our Bombay Potatoes, Stuffed Chapatti and anything Freedom fried … even after six years on our menu.
We offer a variety of fresh healthy Indian and Nepali specialties all of them prepared fresh to order in our kitchen. Since the ocean is right in front of us, you won’t be surprised to hear we have the best connection to fresh fish and seafood, which we buy daily from our local fishermen. Every night our chefs prepare the catch of the day on our barbeque or in our tandoori oven.
Don’t worry if you don’t like your food spicy, we have a good choice of continental dishes available too, like our legendary Club Sandwich or Spaghetti Pesto with roasted Cashews. India being the Mecca for vegetarian food –
we do offer a wide range of veggie dishes which are not only a favorite among Yogis. Even dedicated meat lovers enjoy our vegetarian meals. For breakfast we serve homemade yoghurt and jam, and pride ourselves with our organic Himalaya-Muesli. Our bar offers fresh tropical fruit juices, our legendary homemade lemonades, shakes and lassies. We use organic local teas and coffee for our Indian tea specialties and European coffees such as cafe latte and cappuccino. Jardim a Mar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we are always happy to cater for special events, such as birthdays and anniversaries. We also host fantastic dinner parties at Christmas and New Year.

Yoga at Jardim

Namaste and welcome to the Yoga at Jardim!

The daily Yoga classes take place in our beautiful palm tree garden. Our outdoor Yoga shala is less than 20 meters away from the beach and during the practice one can hear sound of the ocean and breathe the fresh sea breeze.

The classes are held in English language and our qualified teachers Alexandra and Tini warmly welcome non-experienced as well as Yoga professionals.

Alexandra puts her focus on the harmonization of the energies of YIN and YANG. In her lessons, she endeavours in assuring that all participants feel comfortable and leave the classes with a relaxed smile. After Alex finished her trainings as Yoga teacher, Yoga-therapist and YIN Yoga teacher, she quit her job as Business Economist and packed her backpack. Since then, she has taught Yoga in various locations such as: India, England, Greece and Turkey and she is organising Yoga journeys in Europe and India as well. During her travels Alex got to know many other styles of Yoga, made experiences in Vipassana Meditation. Meanwhile she became a trainer for Yoga teachers herself. She is particularly interested in the philosophy and psychosocial and physical effects of Yoga practices.

YIN Yoga combines the influences of the Indian-Vedic Yoga philosophy with the Chinese Taoist practices and Western science. YIN is soft but intensive and focusing on the uniqueness of every human being in order to balance the dominating YANG- energies in our daily life (fast changing living conditions, pressure, stress, competition.) YIN Yoga is a physical exercise for the body and the mind. The Asanas are practiced longer in a meditative, passive way, activating and energizing the deep connective tissues (ligaments, tendons, fascia) and meridian lines. You might be astonished about your mental and physical experiences during the YIN practice!
Tini is a RYT 200 certified yoga teacher and registered medical doctor with her main interest in preventive medicine and yoga as the most effective form of therapy in this field. She has been teaching Vinyasa power yoga since 2007.

For her, yoga is an approach to life which lets us experience the healing arts personally. In her dynamic classes she strives to keep the ancient wisdom of yoga alive, and to integrate it with safe alignment principles, pranayama, visualization techniques and the poetry of the inner teacher.
Tini is thankful for her yoga teacher training with Lance Schuler focusing in a creative synergy of Iyengar and Vinyasa Yoga.
Her classes are physically challenging, a blend of balance, strength, flexibility and endurance, as well as restorative and nourishing using mental images, breath work and guided relaxation.
‘Flowing mindfully on the wave of the breath, we will suddenly turn to the present.
Riding the breath we will connect to the source of life and infinite light, discovering our pure state of contentment that is our true nature.’

Dynamic Yoga taught at the Jardim is inspired by Iyengar, Jivamukti, Vinyasa and Power Yoga. The main focus lies in building a strong body and mind which are flexible and well balanced. We are joyfully exploring our edges, and fuelling ourselves with deep breathing.
A strong body and mind rooted safely in a stable asana foundation will result in developing a positive self image, a feeling of self confidence, stress relief, joyfulness and spaciousness within and around. The deep breathing in combination with cardio vascular workout will improve the circulation and increase the oxygen provided throughout the body, resulting in a better flow of energy, releasing of toxins and empowering us with given nutrients. Flexibility and extra space is created within the muscular-skeletal system which improves our posture, can ease pain and helps us in having a more positive attitude. A nice side effect of yoga is that it helps with weight loss and tones the body.
The connection of our physical body with deeper layers of the energy mind-body is felt easily by challenging our strength and endurance while focusing on the present moment. Through our intensive workout we may cultivate inner peace and calm, to be able to relax and feel compassion for all beings.

Massage

Your Indian vacation wouldn’t be complete without a relaxing Ayurvedic massage and body treatment. We work together with different therapists and can arrange various massage and Ayurvedic treatments. There are a variety of body therapists, energy workers and gently restorative Yoga classes for you to choose from. If you are ready to give your Body & Soul a vacation – come join us at Jardim a Mar.
This season we are working together with Andy and Kathrin from Berlin. They will offer treatments using there knowledge of TCM, Bach flowers, Homoeopathy, Acupuncture and several massage techniques to help, heal and relax you.

FAQ

Visa

For the entry into India you need to obtain a visa prior to traveling. Visas may only be issued in your country of nationality or residency. You can easily apply for a visa at your local consulate. Normally it shouldn’t take more than ten days. Further information you get at india-tourism.com or visit the homepage of the Indian embassy.

Flight Connections

Qatar Airways offers direct flights to Goa via Doha. Swiss International flies directly from Zurich. From November on Condor flies once a week from Frankfurt directly to Goa. If you fly via Mumbai there are plenty of airlines you can choose for a cheap fare. You will find many flights between Mumbai and Goa. Try makemytrip.com or ixigo.com to get a cheap flight ticket. At Dabolim Airport you can hire a taxi to get to Agonda for a fixed rate of 1600 rupees. We offer pick up service for the same rate.

Money Change

There are plenty of currency exchange dealers located throughout Goa. We recommend that you bring sufficient €50 notes to exchange. Exchanging Travelers Cheques in India can be a hassle. ATMs (Cash Stations) accept most international credit cards. However, machines might not always be working when you need cash the most. Nearly every internet-shop is operating as Money Exchange as well. There you can get cash even with your EC card.

Food and Drink

Goa is a treasure trove of restaurants catering to Indian, Goan, Tibetan and Chinese Cuisine. A trip to Goa will not be complete without savoring on the region’s fresh fish. Foods are prepared in kitchens catering to an international clientele. Foods are washed with filtered water – so that even salads can be eaten safely. Although the Indian kitchen is quite spicy and rich, it can usually be eaten without too much ado. Several good beers and wines are available in Goa. However, no evening should be concluded without having the popular dark rum “Old Monk”. Filtered water is available everywhere for sale.

Transportation

We recommend that you have an international Driver’s Permit, available from most national automobile clubs, if you intend on driving or riding a motorcycle in India. Guests may rent the legendary Endfield as well as Hondas or scooters from local dealers. Taxis and rickshaws can also be hired, for simple transportation or on an hourly or daily basis at reasonable rates.

Rail Connections

Naturally, you may also want to consider taking a more adventurous Indian train trip to Agonda. In that case your final destination is Margao. Check konkanrailway.com and indianrail.gov.in for fares and schedules. Taxis are available at the Margao train station to take you to Agonda (approximately one hour ride).

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are not mandatory for traveling to India. However we recommend you consult your personal physician to make an educated decision about malaria and hepatitis vaccines. Make sure that your tetanus and polio vaccinations are up-to-date. Other than your usual medication, we recommend you bring pills against fever, diarrhea and stomach symptoms as well as creams against itching caused by mosquito bites.

Weather

During the travel season, daytime temperatures average at 35 degrees. Evening temperatures differ in the summer and winter months. Evening temperatures in winter (December/January) can get as low as 18 degrees. In the summer (February through April), they can get as high as 28 degrees.
